Press Release: Temporary closure of Central Library

The ceiling in the Central Library building in Stephen Street Sligo sustained some structural damage over the weekend of December 1st. This has resulted in the temporary closure of the Central Library and Local Studies library. A structural assessment has now been conducted under Sligo County Council’s health & safety procedures and remedial work is due to commence. This work is estimated to take four weeks to complete.

In the meantime, library members are welcome to return their books and items on loan to the Local Studies desk in the library building during Central Library’s regular opening hours. We are able to offer a limited lending service from the same location. As the Local Studies section is being utilised for discharging books, its normal research service will not be available. Limited Internet access is now also available from the Local Studies area.

Sligo Library members may use our community libraries in Tubbercurry and Ballymote and may also utilise the Mobile Library Service, details and timetable of which can be found on http://www.sligolibrary.ie/sligolibrarynew/ServicesandResources/MobileLibrary/  Finally members can use their user id and pin number to renew books on-line here or ring us on 071 9111681.

Sligo County Library regrets any inconvenience caused to our members by this temporary disruption to service.

12th December 2012.

  1. I have never thought of libraries as of some kind of masterpeices until I came across this very article: university libraries. They're so gorgeous and inspires to stay and read for long long hours.
