European Information evening in Tubbercurry Community Library

The Tubbercurry Europe Direct Information Centre, which is based in Tubbercurry Community Library, will host a special European information evening on Thursday 20th February from 6 pm.

The evening will get underway with Mary O’Rourke, former Fianna Fail TD and Senator, in conversation with Tommy Marren and be followed by an expert panel discussion on Ireland post-troika and the importance of the EU.  The panel will also include Francis Jacobs, European Parliament Information Office, Ireland and Dr. John O’Brennan, Lecturer, European Politics and Society in NUI Maynooth.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Pat McGrath, said this forum provides an ideal opportunity for people to find out about the importance of Ireland’s historic links and current engagement with our European partners.

Jim Horan, Tubbercurry EDIC Manager, anticipates an excellent evening of conversation and debate from Mary O’Rourke, the specialist panel and a lively audience during a Question and Answer session at the end. With the European Elections in just three months time this is a chance for people to ask questions about the EU and Ireland’s role within it.

Admission is FREE. The event runs from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday 20th February. Food and refreshments will also be served on the night. As a special incentive a prize will also be given on the night to the best question while all who attend the event will also be entered into a draw for a prize.
